7 Working From Home Tips To Boost Motivation

With the recent lockdowns, more and more people are leaving the office behind and making the switch to remote work. This can be a very exciting adjustment at first, although there are a few essentialworking from home tips everyone should know to make the change as seamless and comfortable as possible.

Are you working remotely? Here are our 7 must-know working from home tips to help you get the most out of the experience.

1. Maintain Your Morning Routine

One of the best things about working from home? There’s no need to rush out the door in the early hours of the morning to battle through traffic. It’s just a few quick steps and you’re already at work. And although this freedom may feel great, it’s still worth maintaining your morning routine and acting as if you’re heading out to the office.

This is one of the most importantworking from home tips to remember. As you normally would: set an alarm, have a shower, style your hair, make yourself a coffee, prepare your lunch, and get dressed. This will provide your day with a bit of structure, set the tone, and can boost your productivity down the line.

2. Get An Early Start

Since there’s no commute to worry about, you may feel tempted to sleep in. And though this is fine to do from time to time, it’s a habit that may be worth avoiding - especially with all the advantages associated with getting up early.

Waking up early can boost your productivity and support mental health. Plus, it can keep you on a good sleep schedule, reduce stress, better your sleep quality, and improve your mood. What’s not to love?

Every night before work, be sure to set an alarm for a reasonable hour. Leave enough time to get up and move through your morning routine at your own pace.

2. Create A Workspace

Putting together your home-office is the first step many of us will take while working remotely. It can be a very exciting phase - after all, you’re creating a space dedicated to your working habits and preferences. You don’t have to put up with any annoying features that you normally would in the office - you have full control.

Start by grabbing the essentials - a desk, a comfortable chair, a desk lamp, and an assortment of stationery. Once that’s taken care of, you can pick up various items to add that personal touch - such as candles, greenery, and anything in between.

3. Eliminate Distractions

Remote work allows us to avoid those common office distractions, though it also provides a variety of others we’ll need to deal with. This could be the list of chores that need to get done, a new episode of your favourite show, or constant notifications on your phone.

The best way to deal with these distractions is to eliminate them. Allocate specific hours in the day to deal with chores.

As for your phone, try putting it in another room altogether. If it’s in arms-reach, you’ll be scrolling through social media before you know it.

4. Take A Break

The day can really get away from you when you’re in the groove, which is why it’s important to take a break and refresh from time to time.

Set reminders throughout the day to get up, have a stretch, grab a coffee, and get away from your work. It may sound simple, though taking regular breaks can help you retain information, boost creativity, and make you more productive.

5. Socialise Regularly

Remote work can often leave us feeling isolated from the outside world, especially if you’re home alone all day. The best way to fight off these effects is to simply remain social wherever you can.

Socialising can summon a range of mental and physical benefits. It can boost our emotional health, self-esteem, and keep us looking and feeling good.

If you’re stepping away from the computer, try having a chat with a neighbour or giving your friend a call.

6. Make Time For Exercise

Daily exercise can be hard to squeeze in when you’re working in an office. Between the daily commutes to and from work, it can be difficult to find the time to hit the gym. Though with the freedom of remote working, you have a good opportunity to create some healthy habits and make exercise a daily priority (if it wasn’t already before).

With all this extra time, you could hit the gym, go for a walk, or do a home work-out after work.

7. Set An End Of Work Alarm

Maintaining a work-life balance is very important while you’re working from home, which is why it’s crucial to set a finishing time for your day - and stick to it.

When you’re in a deep-flow, it can be hard to step away and call it quits for the day. Otherwise, you’ll end up working non-stop.

Again, this is where reminders can come in handy. Set an alarm for when you intend to finish your workday.

With these 7 essential working from home tips by your side, remote work will quickly become a breeze.

Here we are in September and I didn’t think for a minute that I’d be writing this with half our country still in lockdown and the other half sweating on the daily press briefings from our politicians to see if we’re headed the same way.

There are so many differing opinions out there in regards to COVID, and so many so called experts coming out of the woodwork telling us what we should or shouldn’t be doing.
