Estimated read time 5 min read

Your hair should look healthy no matter how much you do. It is not possible to adopt a routine that works for someone else. It would help if you tailored it to your hair type. What is the process of creating a hairstyle that suits your hair type?

It is all about finding the best locks for you. It can be challenging. Don’t worry! You don’t have to worry!

What are the benefits of a hair care routine?

A good hair care routine will ensure that your hair feels and looks healthy. A poor hair care routine can cause hair damage or worsening condition.

To determine the best hair care regimen for your hair type, you need to know your hair texture. There are four types: curly, straight, and wavy. Let’s take a closer look at each one.

Different Hair Types

  • Straight hair is the strongest of the four types. It has a shiny appearance.
  • The ends of wavy hair have a slight curl, while the rest are straight.
  • Curly hair can be thick and prone to frizz.
  • Kinky hair is the curliest and has a coarse or fine texture. This hair type is the smallest of the four.

Now that you know the differences between hair types, let’s look at some hair care tips.

Tips for a Hair Care Routine Depending on Your Hair Type

Straight Hair

Straight hair is simple to manage, but you should take the care seriously. Straight hair is characterized by natural oils that travel down the hair’s length. When designing your daily hair care routine, it is essential to consider its tendency to look flat and greasy.

How to Wash

  • To prevent oiliness and greasiness, shampoo your hair with a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfate-based shampoos are usually used for oily hair.
  • Limit how often you wash your hair.

Care

  • Conditioners with argan and coconut oils can hydrate and nourish hair.
  • Conditioner should not be applied to your scalp. It can cause buildup and make your hair flat and greasy. Apply conditioner from the nape to the ends.

How to Style

  • Use a volumizing mousse to prevent your straight hair from looking limp and falling flat. Dollop volumizing mousse onto damp hair and blow dry it.
  • The hair can become too smooth and slippery for proper styling. For example, ponytails and braids can unravel and dropdown. Spray a texturizing spray on your hair to give it texture and hold.

Wavey Hair

Wavy hair is easy to style or complex, depending on how it is cared for. This neither-curly nor straight hair type needs special TLC as it might get greasy at the scalp and dry at the ends.

How to Wash

  • To keep your hair clean and healthy, wash it every 3-4 days.
  • To prevent frizz, dry your hair with a microfiber towel.

Care

  • To add volume and definition to your hair, condition it after you wash it.
  • Leave your hair for an hour before you wash it. The use of pumpkin oil can be beneficial for mild to moderate androgenetic hair loss. Pre- and post-hair washing with coconut oil can penetrate the hair and reduce protein loss. Olive oil is a natural remedy for many hair and scalp problems.
  • Your hair could be damaged by the sun or wind and may split. To lock in moisture and keep your hair healthy, apply jojoba oil to the ends and let it sit overnight.

How to Style

  • Before you go to bed, braid your hair. Braids will make your hair tighter and more defined.
  • Hair scrunching can be an essential part of styling your hair. After shampooing your hair, apply a leave-in conditioner. Next, flip your hair in the opposite direction. You can then curl your hair by grabbing a few pieces of hair from your fingers and rubbing them against your scalp. After this, do not wash your hair. Your hair will look more defined if it dries in this manner.

Curly hair

Although curly hair has a lot of personality, it can be challenging to maintain. This hair type is more likely to lose its curl definition and become dry and frizzy.

How to Wash

  • Curly hair can become dry quickly because of how curls block the natural oils from moving from the scalp to the length of the hair ( 1 ). To preserve natural oils in your hair, use a mild shampoo that is sulfate free. Avoid harsh shampoos, as they can strip your hair of its natural oils.
  • You should only wash your hair twice weekly to avoid dryness and damage.
  • Co-washing your hair with conditioner every other day can be done to clean it without drying it.

Care

  • Regular moisturization is essential for curly hair. You should condition your hair after shampooing it and on days when you don’t like shampoo (i.e., co-washing).
  • A thickening conditioner coats your hair shaft completely and hydrates your curls. Your hair should be conditioned at least every two weeks.
  • Curly hair can be fragile and break easily. This makes it challenging to detangle. A conditioner is the best way to brush your hair. Use a wide-toothed brush to comb your hair to remove any knots or tangles. This will not only reduce hair breakage but also preserves curl definition.
